Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. This makes sense because the body needs this vitamin permanently and our fat store serves as a buffer. In addition to a variety of positive effects, vitamin D has no known adverse effects unless grossly overdosed. Extreme overdose, i.e. blood concentrations of more than 150 ng / ml vitamin D, may cause dizziness, vomiting, muscle weakness, diarrhea and eventually long-term gastric ulcers. At the commonly recommended dosage of 2 capsules per day, i.e. 2,000 IU (international units), a Vitamin D supplement stabilises your vitamin D level, e.g. as a preventive in the winter months, but will not increase it. It is advisable to monitor your vitamin D value and in general to have it tested about twice a year and readjust your dosage, since your blood concentration generally decreases over the course of the year even when taking a maintenance dose.
Once you have ordered and received the test, you can start taking samples. Please read the instructions carefully beforehand. The following video also shows you how the test works!
Vitamin D is fat-soluble and is stored in fatty tissue. Thus we can also get vitamin D formed in summer during the winter months. If you do not want your supplemented dose of vitamin D to be reflected in your test result, you should stop taking it approximately one week before the test. If however you would like the test result to reflect your supplementation, then supplementation does not need to be discontinued.

Before your blood is used for the examination, our laboratory team checks the condition of the blood. Hemolytic blood (clotted blood) cannot be used for the examination. If your sample clotted, we will then contact you and automatically send you a new kit so that you can collect another blood sample. How can the blood become hemolytic? There are two possibilities: 1. The blood transport took too long or the blood was exposed to very high temperatures during transport (e.g. in the mailbox). 2. Too much pressure was applied to your finger blood during sample collection, so that the red blood cells "burst" and the blood clotted. In either case, we will send you a new test kit! For US.
